This is going to be rather short. We arrived back to Arequipa last night, very tired and worn out. The Colca trek was amazing. We are not able to get internet access in our room right now, so we are unable to upload any photos.
Our plan was to go to Cusco by overnight bus tonight, but there is a bus strike that is preventing buses from going from Puno (about halfway in between Arequipa and Cusco) to Cusco. Our first major snag has occurred. We knew it was going to happen, but we weren’t sure when. So we really don’t know what’s going to happen at this point. It was too late to find a travel agent last night, so we have to wait until 9am this morning to talk to someone about what our options are. We’ll keep everyone updated.

Bummer about the bus strike. I assume this means you guys are coming home, right? I’ll call Mary and see if she’ll host the homecoming party.
Wait… Wilson says don’t come home yet…bus drivers will get hungry and go back to work, at least by Christmas or so…….
How was Colca? I can’t wait to hear about it…and see your pictures! We spent time looking at satellite maps of the area around Arequipa trying to determine where you might have been at the time. Found out the Colca is the second deepest canyon in the world! Had to be awesome! Was it twice as difficult as the Grand Canyon? I hope not. Did you see any condors? Enough, already…you can’t answer these questions, so why keep asking. I’ll wait until you blog again. Don’t worry about the buses–enjoy!
Bus strikes — ugh. I’ve been to the bus station in Puno but was too tired to really look around outside — apparently it’s unremarkable. The ride from Puno to La Paz is interesting, though — Copacobana is worth a stay! It’s beautiful, right on Lake Titicaca (heh, heh) has a gorgeous cathedral and this cool stations of the cross thing on a hill. Great trout (trucha) as well. And you can sing Barry Manilow the whole time you’re there.
Hi you two. So very glad to see your photos and read your blog. I am really enjoying “the trip” with you and even though the strike, hey, you’ll get through it. The photos are super! Looking forward to hearing and seeing more. Enjoy yourselves! From one wanderer to two more!
